SCHOOL PROFILE
Jewish Community School of the Desert (JCSD) is located in the city of Palm Desert, California. Palm Desert is one of a small but rapidly growing incorporated communities centrally situated in the Coachella Valley approximately one hundred miles east of Los Angeles. JCSD is the only fully independent community day school between Los Angeles and Phoenix.
The Jewish Federation of Palm Springs and the Desert area is a totally committed partner to JCSD and continues to be a major contributor to the school.
The school was founded in 1993 after careful communication with Coachella Valley rabbis, the Jewish Federation, lay and professional leaders, and a broad spectrum of Jewish families in the area. The stated mission of the school was to enhance secular and Jewish education for the entire community of all levels of observance.
JCSD moved from Palm Springs to its current location on the Temple Sinai Campus in 2000. The school has shown remarkable growth over the past few years. At present, the total enrollment is 65 students with class size ranging from seven to twelve students.
JCSD is planning to relocate together with the Jewish Federation and Jewish Family Services to a new Palm Desert location within the next two years.
